Motorshow 2008

The Rotary Club of Frodsham & Helsby

Our 2nd Annual Motor Show - 2008

At 10am on Sunday the 31st of August, our Club’s 2nd Annual Motor Show opened to the public at Sutton Fields, Sutton Weaver, in the beautiful Cheshire countryside.

The day itself was blessed with fine weather for the major part with, at times, some bright sunshine, which was a huge relief to all those involved as un-settled weather had been forecast.

Following much hard work by our Club’s team of organizers, we were pleased to have a total of 150 Vehicles entered for the Motor Show and this fine and diverse display was viewed with great interest by some 2000 visitors to the Show Ground.

It is pleasing to note that the day itself, was not restricted to the pure enthusiasts, but Young Families and Children’s Organizations were encouraged with free entry for the under 12’s. As you might expect, Fairground Rides and Attractions were provided, which were enjoyed by Children and Adults alike!

In support of the above, we are also pleased to mention that in attendance to make the Motor Show provisions complete were several Trade Stands which represented a variety of Local and National Services Providers and Motoring Organizations that were only too keen to show off their wears.

The Motor Show itself featured four different “Categories of Entries”, these being Classic Cars, American Cars, Special Interest Vehicles with Custom & Modified Cars and finally a Non-Judged Section.

With entrants being drawn from far and wide from both Individual Enthusiasts and Car Club’s alike, the competition for Show Prizes was, as expected, intense yet honourably competitive.

Following the judging of all of the Entries, the Trophies were presented by President Elect Brian Henshaw

And now to the results: Our three “Category” Winners were:-

Classic Cars - Triumph Vitesse - Graham Lowmas from Manchester

American Cars - Ford Mustang - Adam Mitchell from Helsby

SIV with C&M Cars - TVR Grand Tourer - Steve Reid from Preston on the Hill, Triumph Dolomite - David Hames from Lichfield

However, the Car taking the coveted prize “Spirit of the Show” was the wonderful Ford Mustang, owned by Geoff Langston from Manchester.

Prior to the formal closing of the event, it was with great pleasure that our Club’s principal organizer, Eddie Basnett-Briscoe firstly thanked all the Entrants for bringing along their Cars and Motorcycles and of course mentioned all those who had attended, for without everyone’s support, there would have been no Motor Show.

He also thanked Angela Peattie, Tourism Manager at Vale Royal Borough Council for her help and sponsorship. Finally he confirmed to all present that following the clear success of this year’s event, members of the Rotary Club of Frodsham & Helsby would be working hard to ensure that next years Motor Show would be even bigger and better.

So …… See You All Next Year.
