Last weekend saw the third running of the Rotary Charity Motor Show, organised by the Rotary Club of Frodsham and Helsby. It was held over the weekend of 1st and 2nd August at Frodsham Community Centre. It saw over 4,000 visitors attending the show. Saturday was the preview day with the main event taking place on the Sunday.

Almost 100 exhibitors attended who brought along many varied types of vehicles including motor bikes, vintage cars, American cars, sports cars, and even double-decker buses from the Wirral Transport Collection. Those of us who remember Simon Templar (The Saint) enjoyed seeing a Volvo P1800 coupe like the one used in the 1960's TV series. There was also a fabulous opportunity to take a spin in an Aston Martin Vantage; another highlight being a parade through the town centre on the Sunday by many of the exhibitors.

Winners of the various show categories were as follows:

*Keith Farrall from Macclesfield, driving a Corvette, won "Best American"

*Dave Hanes from Staffordshire, driving a Triumph Dolomite, won "Best Custom Modified".

*Dave Beasley from Warrington, riding a Honda 350, won "Best Motor Cycle".

*Ian Bowdler from Chester, driving a Ford Cortina 2000E from 1973, won "Best Classic Car".

*Neil Barker from Sale, driving a VW Devon Caravanette in factory specification, won "Best of Show" because he had kept all the original features.

In addition to the vehicles on display, visitors also enjoyed looking at 20 trade stands and the fairground rides for the children. Food and drinks were supplied in the form of a hog roast, with tea and coffee supplied by members of Inner Wheel. There was also a licensed bar in the Community Centre. The Rotary club also ran their famous bacon and burger stall as well as their latest edition - the baked potato stall.

Feedback from many members of the public who attended was that it was nice to see such a well-organised event being staged in Frodsham, allowing many people to walk to the event.

A Rotary Club spokesman said that they were delighted to beat last year's attendance figure of 3,000 people and hoped that everyone had enjoyed the show. The Club is very grateful to all those who took part and attended the event which was the culmination of many months work.

Thanks also go to Frodsham Community Association for their support.
